Introducing this dope Cape Townian, young man with a voice to make S.A proud in the international scene. This dude can give most a run for their millions…We proud to feature this talent.

BEST: Please introduce yourself?

CK: I am Calvin Kleyn a 23 y/o creative whom hails from Cape Town, South Africa.

BEST: What is your music background?

CK: Music has always been in my family. My mother & brother used to sing in gospel groups/choirs respectively. I sang in the primary school choir as well as the church choir from a young age. Having graduated High School, I went on to study music & music business at Jazz legend Camillo Lombard’s “Cape Music Institute.

BEST: Do you write your own songs?

CK: Yes, I write all my own material as far as the lyrics are concerned. I make use of different composure’s/producers like Randall Jermaine, Psykobeats as far as the music goes. But I’m open to ideas & using writers even. After all a writer is only the sum of his experience & getting some more experience on board can’t hurt.

BEST: Who are your musical influences?

CK: At this current moment. It would have to be artist such as Nathi Mankayi, Cassper Nyovest, AKA (Kiernan Forbes), Jason Derulo & Chris Brown.

BEST: What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighbourhood or town?

CK: My fondest musical memory would have to be opening the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with the national anthem.

BEST: What are your songs about?

CK: My songs are the sum of my life experience. I sing about love, how I’m afraid to love – Things that scare me, things that attract me & things we all find sexy. I write only message the music tells me to convey to the public, the beat gives off a certain energy. That energy paired with my experience is usually turns into the song.

BEST: So you are new in scene, how would you describe your music to people?

CK: I wouldn’t really describe myself as new, I’ve been at it for close to 8 years now. So people have a lot to listen to, if I had to describe my music? I’d say – My music has the ability to get you caught up in your feelings (Destined), it will make you want to give in to temptation (69 unreleased) & then all round it will always have you in the mood to have a good time (Spin The Bottle).

BEST: Have you recorded any previous CDs or posted any audio files on the Internet?

CK: I’ve recorded popular covers as well as my original music which is now sitting on 78 978 plays (via hulkshare & soundcloud) & 32 990 downloads (via hulkshare, soundcloud, datafilehost) – you can find my music solely on soundcloud now at https://goo.gl/zp7Qke

BEST: What are your immediate music career goals?

CK: My immediate career goals, would have to getting some consistent airplay & performing at bigger events. I want to rub shoulders with artist way bigger then what I am at the moment.

BEST: What are your long-term career goals?

CK: I want to be one of the biggest names in South African music where R&B is concerned. One of my life long goals was always to perform at Madison Square Garden at least once, I think that is still one of the things I want to achieve. Goals of a more mid-term would be to attend the SAMAs & Metro FM awards & perhaps take something home from it.
