My Name is Alberto also known as Dj Slow, I’m a versatile Dj, the founder of DSE Pro Sounds and also a successfull graduate through Boston College.
Best: Where are you from and do they love your music where you from?
Slow: I’m from the East Rand (Katlehong) and Yes they do love music.
Best: When did you start Djing?
Slow: I started in 2010.
Best: So when did you decide that this was no longer a hobby and that you would make it your career?
Slow: Mid year of 2011 after seeing the response from people as I was a resident DJ at Mamokiti’s place.
Best: So what sets you apart from the rest? What’s the difference between other DJ and you?
Slow: My track selection as well as mixing.
Best: What is it like when you look out at the crowd?
Slow: It’s a great feeling to see everyone enjoying themselves, it’s like you bring out the best in them.
Best: Where do you get inspiration from?
Slow: Mostly from other artists I perform with as well as family not to forget my partner.
Best: Do you get nervous before you go on stage?
Slow: Sometimes I do depending on the size of the crowd.
Best: What is the biggest crowd that you have ever played for?
Slow: Plus minus 2000 people.
Best: What is the greatest gig that you’ve played?
Slow: I think Phumuza Maphiko is one of the highlights.
Best: How has the house scene changed since you started djing?
Slow: It has changed a lot since there’s been a genre called Amapiano.
Best: Do plenty of women throw themselves at you?
Slow: Well not really, I choose to work professionally and don’t give much attention to such.
Best: Is being a Dj lucrative?
Slow: Yes I believe so.
Best: Do you have other businesses you are involved in?
Slow: Yes, I own a company called DSE Pro Sounds which deals with Sound Hire, Stage and Lighting for any particular function/Event.
Best: How many studio albums do you have if not are you looking to release anything in the future?
Slow: Not yet I’ve only released mixtapes but I do plan on releasing an Album.
Best: Is there any artist you wish to work with in our industry?
Slow: Yes they are, people like Dj Kent, Dj Shimza and Kabza de Small.
Best: How do you think music you play has changed over the years?
Slow: It has changed a lot as I get to explore new genres and evolve with time.
Best: Are you big into social media. how many twitter/FB followers do you have?
Slow: Yes I am social lite, I have 3.6k Facebook followers (Dj Slow SA) and 1.1K on my Twitter handle (@DjSlowSA)
Best: What is your advice to up and coming DJs?
Slow: Firstly I’d advise them to do it out of love and not for fame or any wrong reasons, it’s a tough industry and it needs you to be persistent and work hard to see results.
Best: If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?
Slow: I would be a Sound Engineer.
