Electronic dance music (EDM)
“EDM” is not a genre on its own but a communal of sub genres of electronic dance music. The term EDM is an acronym adopted by the Pop culture late 2000’s to create a buzzword. EDM encompasses a variety of genres, house, techno, trance, hardstyle, trap, UK garage, drum & bass, dubstep, progressive, electro. Back in 1977 a collaboration between producer Giorgio Moroder and vocalist Donna Summer on the song “I Feel Love“ broke boundaries. Before “I Feel Love”, most disco tracks were backed by acoustic orchestras. Ten years later house music had boomed in the US, it also brought with it trendy basement parties and these gatherings slowly trickled to the UK. That’s when the genre went underground, to escape the attention of the press and the authorities. Within a year, or so up to 10,000 people at a time were attending the first commercially organized mass festivities, called raves, and a media storm ensued.
Fast forward to 2015 we now have ample of these mass gatherings Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, New York City’sElectric Zoo, and TomorrowWorld.
