My real name is Siyabonga Msebeni known as Seazy XXL born and raised in Umlazi, which is a popular township in Durban. I’m the eldest of 3 kids, I spent early stages of my life living with my grandmother who played a vital role in my growth.
BEST: What is your music background?
XXL: My background consists of a lot of kwaito and afro soul, because I recall hearing it a lot at home. My dad was a fan of kwaito so he would play the likes of Mdu, Tkzee, Zola and Mandoza just to name a few.
BEST: Do you write your own songs?
XXL: Yes, I do write my own songs, I believe that as an artist it is important for your music to reflect your current state whether financial, emotional or spiritual therefore I doubt anybody could understand or interpret my emotions better than myself.
BEST: Who are your musical influences?
XXL: I have quite a few artist which I can say influence my music and this may come as a shock to many but most of my influences are not even hip-hop acts. My music is influenced by the likes of Zonke, Letta Mbuli, Naima kay, Zola, Shon G and Bongi Dube just to name a few.
BETS: What are your songs about?
XXL: Most of my songs give you access into the mind of a black South African youth who has big dreams and hopes for his future and on his journey he comes across a lot of challenges which he writes about with hopes of finding people who will relate to his struggle.
BEST: So you are new in the scene, how would you describe your music to people?
XXL: I can’t really describe it because I’m a fan of fusing genres and then adding my vernac flavour, which consists of the use of isiZulu and Umlazi slang.
BEST: You spoke about a project dropping soon please tell us about that?
XXL: Well I have an EP dropping on the 9th of August which is titled “I LOVE BONGI”.Its a free project where I sample Bongi Dube’s music and pay homage to the women of this world and what they go through on an everyday basis.
BEST: Sounds very interesting we can’t wait to hear that, any collabs on the EP?
Yes there is one with a lady named Mpilo from my hood but since I wanted this to be a project introducing me as an artist to the people I decided to keep the features at a minimum.
BEST: What are your immediate music career goals?
XXL: To gain recognition, collaborate with other artists and perform regularly.
BEST: What are your long-term career goals?
